INDUSTRY PROFILE Q & A: Suzanne and Chrissy Collins

Q.When and how did you start working in this business? A. We launched 29th Street Designs last spring and our debut was the National Stationery Show in New York. Growing up in a family where special occasions were always marked with greeting cards and where handwritten thank you notes were required, we learned to value the extra effort and thought signified by sending a card.
Chrissy had been working in the wedding and invitation business for the last four years as a designer and event planner and Suzanne recently completed her MBA after switching industries from investment banking. It's the combination of our individual talents that inspired us to launch 29th Street Designs.
Q.What is your signature style? A. We believe in keeping things classic and simple, while making our cards unique. All of our products are printed on clean, white felt paper with one simple design element. Each design is colorful and hand-embellished with hints of glitter or Swarovski crystals to bring sparkle to the celebration. Every design is Chrissy's original creation.
Q. What are your most popular stationery offerings? A. We are now sold in 16 states in more than 70 stores and our greeting cards are the most popular product offering. The most popular cards are Falling Candles (for birthday), Pickles and Ice Cream (for a new baby) and Mr.& Mrs. (for wedding).
Q. Please share the direction your line will be taking. A. At the National Stationery Show in May we were excited to announce the addition of boxed sets of greeting cards and thank you cards of some of our most popular designs. We are also adding a line of Christmas holiday notecards and gift tags.
Q. If you couldn't do this, what would you do instead? A. Nothing. This is a career change for both of us so we are thrilled to be at this point and working together doing something we love.
