Q & A: Brooke Uzarski
M. Middleton Creative Director
Q. How did you get your start in the stationery business?
A. I graduated in 2004 from Ferris State University in Michigan with a major in Visual Communication and Web Media. I came to Design Design Inc. in 2005 and started working in the catalog department and then switched to the product development department, where I was given custom projects to manage for key accounts. Design Design Inc. acquired MM's designs in 2006 and launched the stationery collection as M. Middleton. I was promoted to M. Middleton Creative Director in 2008.
Q. What is your signature style?
A. M. Middleton already had an established style customers had grown to love, so I was put in charge of not only maintaining those traditional themes, sophisticated borders and soft colors (M. Middleton Signature Collection), but also to branch out into the more laid-back, festive invitations (M. Middleton Celebration Collection).
Q. What is the most exciting thing happening at M. Middleton?
A. The Emily Post Wedding Albums exclusively for M. Middleton debuted at the 2010 National Stationery Show, partnering the expert advice from the Emily Post Institute and designed and crafted invitation suites from
M. Middleton.
The wedding invitation line includes more than 50 suites represented in two collections: Grace and Style. The designs embrace traditional and trend elements of delicate laser die-cuts, triangle fold-over jackets, subtle embossing, blind embossments and a variety of ribbon choices and rich ink colors. Each invitation can be completely customized by choosing from a selection of fonts, ink colors, motifs, monograms and other design elements to create an invitation suite as unique as each and every bride.
Q. Please share the direction the line will be taking.
A. We are expanding our Stationery Gift Collection in order to establish a larger name in the gift market and are addressing the ever-changing invitation market by selecting imprintable designs for very specific needs of our customers. We launched our first Custom Stationery Album Program in 2010, and have several more albums to launch in 2011.
Q. If you couldn't do this, what would you do instead?
A. As a mother of three young girls, I enjoy taking the time to nurture
and care. M. Middleton is like my work baby. I love to nurture the company and help it grow. I don't know if I could ever picture myself anywhere but right where I am. |
